Like you, we love our dogs, love working with them and the pure devotion they have to us. And just like you, we don’t like the cost involved with owning them, especially the registration and vet bills. Let’s be honest, someone is making money!
But who are we and why do we operate K9 Essentials?
My name is Jo and I am usually the person you will run into on the phone or at the store. My husband, Karl helps out with the business and can often be found at dog events promoting K9 Essentials, canine aromatherapy and Orijen dog food.
Our story is a familiar one in New Zealand. When we met I had one Siberian Husky (Kayto) and soon after we got a second (Sarah) to keep Kayto company when we weren’t home.
After moving from Christchurch to Southland we found out about the Southland Sled Dog Club and when one thing leading to another we found ourselves rescuing and rehoming Siberian Huskies from all over New Zealand. We currently have nine.
We are both involved in sled dog racing and we will have to wait and see if our children will be too when they are older. You can see our website about our dogs at www.blackcatsibes.co.nz
A few years ago Kayto became very ill. He required major surgery to remove his spleen and a large growth, which thankfully was not cancer, but did have to spend several months on very strong medication. He has never been the same and that got us thinking about what goes into our dog’s bodies.
K9 Essentials began offering a small amount of treats and a number of natural, safe and effective aromatherapy alternatives for dogs. From treating for issues such as fleas, unrest, anxiety or wounds, we decided it was time to monitor what ‘bad stuff’ went into our dogs and substitute this for chemical free options if we could. This grew into researching the best food, treats and health supplements we could offer our dogs. As people became interested in what we were doing we decided to make it easier for them and started K9 Essentials.
Qualified in aromascience I have developed a number of alternatives to drug treatments. I believe there is a place for these treatments and modern veterinary medicines to coincide but just as humans are watching their health, we need to do the same for our dogs.
We both look forward to helping you offer your dog the best, of everything. |
